Christmas Casserole

Posted: Dec 16 2012

I'm reposting a recipe--again--but I can't let this Christmas slip by without sharing our favorite recipe that heralds this amazing day. Every morning, we all open gifts with the smell of this delicous casserole cooking in the oven. It's so easy, too! I make it on Christmas Eve after we get home from church and then stick it in the fridge. When we wake up in the morning, I sneak downstairs and stick it in the oven before everyone heads into the living room. In about an hour, it's ready to be enjoyed!

We enjoy this dish every Christmas morning. Yes it’s fattening and not the healthiest but it’s Christmas - enjoy!

13 slices of white bread
1 lb. Velveeta cheese
2 sticks margarine
7 eggs
3 and a half cups of milk
2 tsp. of dry mustard
salt and pepper

Grease a 9 x 13 pan. Tear up bread into small pieces and put in pan. Melt cheese and butter together. Add dry mustard and mix. Pour over bread. Beat eggs - add salt and pepper to taste. Add milk to eggs and mix well. Pour over bread and cheese mixture. Let this sit overnight or for at least 8 hours. Bake in over at 300 for one hour uncovered.

Important: Be sure that you pour the cheese and butter mixture over the bread BEFORE you pour the egs and milk in. It makes a big difference.

Talk About It!
